“I've had both of my knees totally replaced. Dr. Thackeray had been treating my knees with injections for years and it reached the point where my one knee was not responding anymore. I would ask periodically when I should consider replacement. The doctor's response was always the same, you'll tell me when you're ready. When I made the decision to have it done, it was my choice. Looking back after the first surgery, I made the same observation others had and that was, I should have done this a long time ago. I did the rehabilitation at the doctors facility and this was very beneficial. The doctor was in constant communication with my therapist and was kept informed of my progress. The therapy was the key to my recovery and Matt ( therapist) was very concerned regarding my previous session. He wanted to know what I was experiencing in my knee and the surrounding muscles. He listened intently and customized the therapy to my responses. The staff at the office, Jamie and Chad were also integral in the total recovery of both my replacements. I said to Dr. Thackeray after my first surgery that there wasn't a moment that I was in doubt about his ability and he immediately gave the glory to our higher power.”

“It's been over three years since I've had both of my knees replaced over a 4 month period by Dr. Thackeray. I have to honestly say that it was absolutely the best decision I've made for myself in my lifetime. After 20 years of babying my knees and an everyday intake of 3-5 Aleve and quarterly visits to get injections for relief, I pulled the trigger and had full replacements done - one in March and the second one in June. I'm proud to say that I followed every order that the doctor gave me. I started pilates to strengthen my core and knees, stayed fit as could be, and kept my weight down. The results: I walked into the doctors office on the 14th day (each time) without any walking aid, and on the 18th day, I swam 40 laps in the pool! Since then, I've sky dived, playing tennis again, dropped my handicap in golf by 10 strokes, hiked, rock climbed, skied and can even run with a 10 year old without any pain whatsoever! Now, I don't run to stay in shape but it was actually a real dream of mine to just be able to run, and I'm fairly fast at the age of 62! “I had a complete knee replacement on August 14, 2014, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Destin. I didn't see or feel a thing during or after surgery. I still didn't have any pain! The facility was wonderful, cheerful, and bright. Even the food was good. I didn't have the greatest appetite though. I came home with Gentiva Home Health Care, which was outstanding. It's been 3 and 1/2 weeks now, and my scar is hardly noticeable, thanks to Dr. Thackeray. He was great as was Dr. Macey before him. I opted to go out to Sacred Heart, as several friends recommended it. Glad I did, as it was an uplifting atmosphere. I am now going to outpatient rehab at Orthopaedic Associates, and looking forward to being back to normal soon.”
