At Orthopaedic Associates, we make every effort to implement innovative and advanced methods, techniques, and procedures to help our patients experience better results. Because of this, we are proud to offer the UltraGuideCTR device for carpal tunnel release with real-time ultrasound guidance.

As the first orthopaedic surgeon in the Panhandle to use UltraGuideCTR, our fellowship-trained and board-certified expert Dr. James Watt performs this alternative surgical option to help patients recover faster and have immediate hand mobility.

What Is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?

Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when there is increased pressure on the median nerve as it passes through the wrist toward the hand. The added pressure creates pain, numbness, and tingling in the hand and arm. To address this problem, doctors need to perform a carpal tunnel release (CTR) to relieve the pressure on the nerve.

What Is UltraGuideCTR?

UltraGuideCTR allows for Dr. Watt to perform a carpal tunnel release with the additional benefit of seeing the entire hand and wrist anatomy in real-time for advanced accuracy and precision throughout the surgery.

Unlike traditional surgery, UltraGuideCTR gets patients back to work quicker—usually within 3 – 6 days—due to the less disruptive incision and increased visualization of the anatomy. UltraGuideCTR provides the following benefits:

  • Quick return to work and normal life
  • Small wrist incision usually closed without sutures
  • Minimal post-op pain management
  • Immediate hand mobility

Dr. Watt is available to see patients at our locations in Fort Walton Beach, Destin, Niceville, and Crestview.
