Dr. Jake Hawkins is a board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacement, including complex revision surgery. He offers a comprehensive approach to joint care, combining advanced surgical techniques with non-surgical and biologic treatment options to help patients restore mobility, reduce pain, and improve quality of life. He takes a patient-centered, individualized approach, carefully considering each patient’s anatomy, lifestyle, and goals to develop customized treatment plans.
Dr. Hawkins performs kinematic total knee arthroplasty, an advanced technique that restores the knee’s natural anatomy and joint alignment. By respecting each patient’s unique knee kinematics, this approach may result in improved range of motion, reduced postoperative pain, a more natural-feeling knee, and faster recovery compared to traditional mechanically aligned knee replacement.
Similarly, Dr. Hawkins performs the direct anterior approach hip replacement, a muscle-sparing technique that accesses the hip joint from the front of the body. This approach avoids cutting major muscles and may result in less postoperative pain, faster recovery, improved early moblity, and a lower risk of dislocation.
In addition, Dr. Hawkins specializes in robotic- and navigation-assisted hip and knee replacement, utilizing advanced technology to enhance surgical precision, implant positioning, and soft-tissue balance. Robotic assistance allows for detailed preoperative planning and real-time intraoperative guidance, supporting improved accuracy, consistency, and long-term outcomes while preserving healthy bone and tissue.
Dr. Hawkins also offers biologic and regenerative treatments for patients who may benefit from joint preservation or wish to explore non-surgical options for other conditions. These treatments include bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC), platelet-rich plasma (PRP), and amniotic-based therapies, which are used to help reduce pain, improve function, and support the body’s natural healing response in select musculoskeletal conditions.
Dr. Hawkins earned his undergraduate degree in exercise science from Florida State University in Tallahassee, followed by his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Florida State University College of Medicine. He then completed a 5-year residency in orthopaedic surgery at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. To further specialize in joint replacement and revision surgery, Dr. Hawkins completed a prestigious adult reconstruction fellowship at the University of Florida College of Medicine and Shands Hospital. This advanced training empowers him to deliver state-of-the-art care with precision, compassion, and innovation.
Outside of his surgical practice, Dr. Hawkins enjoys playing golf, fishing, exercising, visiting the beach, boating, hunting, traveling, and spending quality time with his family. His active lifestyle mirrors his dedication to health and wellness, which he brings to his practice every day.
